Lisa Howser, MA is a Senior Licensed Psychological Examiner. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University. She completed additional coursework towards her Doctorate of Psychology in Behavioral Medicine at California Graduate Institute in Los Angeles, CA.

During the past 30 years, she has provided a full range of psychological services to adults and adolescents. Currently, Ms. Howser provides psychotherapy services to adults and adolescents.  She has specific training in the treatment of chronic pain, anxiety and depressive disorders, and trauma-related disorders. In addition, she is trained to provide services for adults with intellectual challenges that include parent-training and behavior analysis.  She has expertise in autism, traumatic brain injury and other neurological challenges for individuals and for their families.

Ms. Howser enjoys providing educational information and encouraging people to learn about their specific issues as well as incorporating Mindfulness skills as a basis for learning coping skills.

Ms. Howser’s approach to treatment is dependent on the client’s needs.  Her therapeutic approach is always collaborative in which she and her client function as a team to appropriately address the presenting problem.  Treatment team collaboration with psychiatric or neurological providers on site is a highly effective manner of maximizing treatment outcomes.

Ms. Howser’s treatment approach varies with the needs her clients. When providing services, she draws from a wide range of modalities; including, DBT (Dialectic Behavior Therapy):  clinical hypnotherapy and relaxation; and biofeedback.  She is also experienced in administering tests related to psychological or cognitive functioning.

Ms. Howser is an advocate for rescue dogs and is learning to train her own rescue dog, Mojo, to eventually be a therapy dog.  She also enjoys travelling to warm beaches and practicing her mindfulness skills.
